Extinction Rebellion at Marble Arch – Tuesday

I took a stroll to Marble Arch at lunchtime to see if there was anything happening there, of course there was.

What initially struck me was the complete lack of traffic,

the amount of people camping in tents

and the location of some of those tents!

Again I was impressed by the resourcefulness of the demonstrators or campaigners,

and the sheer amount of people present. Here are a few more photographs taken around Marble Arch.

I spoke to another policeman, watching th eogings on, and asked how long he thought the campaigners would be at Marble Arch and Oxfird Circus for. He also mentioned two weeks as the campaigner had earlier this morning. His logic being that whilst the campaigners were campaignin gin a peaceful manner they were also breaking a nunber of laws. However due to police cuts he didn’t think there were enough police to carry iout the arrests or enough police cells to lock the people up in, quite interesting I thought.

On a slightly different topic the campaigners have acheived something the mayor has been trying to do namely remove the buses from Oxford Street. With both Marble Arch and Oxford Circus being closed to traffic the only vehicles using Oxford Street are taxis and the odd delivery van, plus cyclists, so it’s almost pedestrianised! Finally after asking a few questions I found out these people are campaigning or demonstrating not protesting. I wasn’t entirely sure which term was most accurate, a campaigner set me straight! Hence the omission of the word Protest in the title of this post.
